Glenn H. Curtiss Museum was established to maintain an aviation museum in the Village of Hammondsport (Finger Lakes Region - Keuka Lake), Steuben County, New York, for the display
of items relating to and significant in the role of Hammondsport in aviation history, and particularly the contributions made to early aviation by Glenn H. Curtiss, a resident of the Finger Lakes
Region of Western New York (in the village of Hammondsport, NY). Curtiss Museum focuses on early aviation and aviation history (with a significant collection of antique aircraft and vintage aircraft), vintage motorcycles and antique motorcycles and Hammondsport history. Collections include: antique aircraft, vintage aircraft, aircraft exhibits and a motorcycle collection of early motorcycles including antique motorcycles and vintage motorcycles. Curtiss Museum is not just an aviation museum, the collections also include Hammondsport history, doll exhibits, dollhouse exhibits and a miniature exhibit. Glenn H. Curtiss played a significant role in early aviation and is known as the "Father of Naval Aviation". Just a few of his many accomplishments include: First American Motorcycle Champion, set many world speed records (including "Fastest Man in the World"), produced and sold the first private aircraft in the United States, won the first international air speed record, set the first long distance flying record, received the first pilot's license number, created the first seaplane in America, developed and flew first flying boat, produced 6,000 flying Jenny's for World War I aircraft training and participated in many first flights including the first to fly the Atlantic. His mark in aviation history is unparalleled, a true aviation pioneer! |
